Chesco Premier Wins Director's Cup National Title
on Game's Final Kick

One local youth soccer club put its name on the National map this past weekend.

Chesco Premier - a team comprised of players from area high schools, including Avon Grove - captured the prestigious US Youth Soccer National Director's Cup Under-16 championship last Sunday morning at the Kirkwood Soccer Club in Kirkwood, Del.

The team is coached by Pete Dicce, who is also the Kennett High School varsity soccer coach. In addition, Chesco Premier featured three players from Avon Grove High School, one player from Kennett High School and three from Unionville High School.

The National Director’s Cup was made up of the top four teams in the country from four separate regions: Chesco Premier, the New York Kosmos, Texas and the Nevada Red Devils.

The tournament began last Friday with round-robin play. Chesco Premier finished first in the group after going 1-0-2 and then advanced to the championship game to face second-place Nevada. Full Story

February 28 was an historic day with a packed Turbine Hall in the Wharf building along the waterfront in Chester. Excitement and anticipation filled the room. The Polish American String Band played “Four Leaf Clover” and soccer enthusiasts young and old – including more than one hundred representatives from the Sons of Ben, college coaches and representatives from every soccer organization including EPYSA – cheered with delight as MLS Commissioner Don Garber awarded Philadelphia Major League Soccer’s 16th team.
